Oxford College of Business was recently recognized as the 2nd runner-up among all small business entities in Sri Lanka, when they won the bronze award at the National Business Excellence Awards 2013. The National Business Excellence Awards is an annual award competition conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) with a view to recognizing business enterprises, which have demonstrated excellence in business, whilst contributing to the economic progress of the country.

“We are extremely proud of being the recipient of this award. It is the first time that Oxford College of Business took part in this prestigious competition. It is truly rewarding to be recognised for the contribution Oxford College of Business makes to the economic development of the country while practising exemplary business practices. The National Business Excellence Awards is known for its diligent process in selecting award winners and it is our privilege to be a part of this process,” said Mr. Malindu Ranasinghe, Director of Oxford College of Business.

This annual award competition recognises business enterprises, which have demonstrated excellence in business, whilst contributing to the economic progress of the country. Applications for the awards were evaluated by a team of highly qualified professionals and the final selection was made by an expert Panel of Judges headed by Prof Uditha Liyanage, with the addition of panel members consisting of Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala- President, CMA, Dr.KoshyMathai- Resident Representative, International Monetary Fund and Ravi Pieris- Director General/CEO, The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, Dr. Penny Hood.

During the awards presentation Prof. Uditha Liyanage explained the criteria based on which winners are selected such as: Leadership, Corporate Governance, Capacity Building, Performance Management, Local and Global market reach, CSR and Environment Sustainability and Business and Financial Results. The primary objective of this competition is to recognize and reward contributions that have been made by business enterprises towards the economic progress of the country.

A total of 200 over applications were submitted this year, which were short listed down to 83 companies which were interviewed by the imminent panel of Judges. Winners were selected on the basis of overall excellence, criteria excellence, category excellence and sector excellence. In time to come, NCCSL is to focus on adopting a more transparent approach with their processes where they hope that the scheme would represent a guidebook approach towards excellence where the objective is to raise the standards of all companies in Sri Lanka.
