COURSE STRUCTURE

In an increasingly interconnected world, the ability to navigate cultural diversity is a vital skill for today’s global managers. This module introduces you to the key concepts, theories and practices of intercultural management, equipping you to understand how cultural and institutional differences shape workplace dynamics across international settings. You’ll critically explore how culture impacts communication, decision-making, and collaboration, while also learning to identify situations where culture may not be the defining factor. Through the study of regional business environments, classic and contemporary cultural models, and hands-on case studies, you’ll gain insight into managing across borders. Drawing on the diverse backgrounds of your peers, the module fosters interactive learning experiences that heighten your cultural awareness, challenge stereotypes, and build your capacity to work respectfully and effectively in cross-cultural teams. By the end of the module, you’ll be equipped to engage confidently and sensitively in global work environments.

This module delves into the long-term direction and purpose of organisations, focusing on how sustainable competitive advantage is achieved and maintained. You’ll engage with core strategic frameworks and analytical tools that help assess internal capabilities and align them with external industry dynamics, environmental conditions, and stakeholder expectations. The module emphasises both the design and implementation of business-level and corporate-level strategies, structured around five key themes: evaluating strategic options for suitability, acceptability, and feasibility; contrasting intended versus emergent strategy development; understanding the impact of organisational structures and systems; leading strategic change; and exploring the real-world practice of strategy. With a strong practical orientation, you’ll examine how strategists operate, the methods they use, and the challenges they face in dynamic, global markets. The module encourages reflection on strategy’s role in creating shared value and advancing business sustainability, preparing you to analyse strategic challenges and make informed, impactful decisions.

As the world faces pressing environmental and social challenges, businesses are increasingly expected to operate responsibly and sustainably. In this module, you’ll explore how organisations are responding to these expectations by integrating sustainability into their strategies and everyday practices. You’ll investigate the global drivers of this shift such as the Sustainable Development Goals and consider the business case for adopting sustainable approaches. With a focus on personal and organisational responsibility, the module challenges you to reflect on your own ethical values and social impact. A key feature of the module is an authentic assessment, where you’ll create and evaluate an environmental management plan for your home or workplace. You’ll also critically analyse how different businesses approach social responsibility and sustainable management, developing the tools to lead with purpose in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

This capstone module offers you the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout your degree to a real-world business issue. Working as part of an interdisciplinary team, you will respond to a live business brief, acting as the subject specialist in your field to address a complex organisational challenge. You’ll conduct in-depth research, critically analyse data, and apply appropriate methodologies to develop practical, evidence-based solutions. The project culminates in a professional poster presentation, where your team will showcase its findings and respond to questions, as well as a detailed group business report outlining your recommendations. In addition, you’ll submit an individual reflection that captures your personal learning journey highlighting your contribution to the team, your research approach, and how your conclusions were formed. This module not only sharpens your research, teamwork and communication skills, but also prepares you to tackle contemporary business challenges with confidence and professionalism.
